James Moyer Sports Complex, Salem VA, Thursday, July 26, 2007 --- Blacksburg and Salem finally got to play after two days of rain delay. Salem jumped on Blacksburg in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs on one hit. Two walks would provide Salem with the base runners they needed to score. Blacksburg responded in top of the third. With one out, Andrew Guy drew a walk, Caden Croy advanced Guy to second via an error, and Adam Linkous singled to load the bases. Hal Hughes delivered a bases loaded single RBI to score Guy. In the top of the 5th, Blacksburg would add two more runs. Will Murray singled, Andrew Guy walked, and Ethan Goforth beat out an infield hit to load the bases. Morgan McCoy delivered a no out double up the middle to score Murray and Guy. After an out on a ball hit to the pitcher, Blacksburg had two runners thrown out at the plate on great plays by Salem players. Salem was able to get Blacksburg three up and three down in the 6th to preserve the 5-3 win. After the game, the three teams with one loss participated in a drawing, and Blacksburg drew the bye. Halifax and Salem will play a single elimination game on Friday at 5PM. Blacksburg plays the winner in the Championship Game on Saturday at 10AM.
Despite the noon weekday start time, a good crowd came out to support Blacksburg.
